Buderim will be the venue for the opening and closing performances of the 2023 Sunshine Coast Chamber Music Festival.
On Friday 09 June 2023 at 7.30pm Buderim War Memorial Hall will host the Internationally-acclaimed ‘Camerata Chamber Music Orchestra’ for the opening performance of the Festival.
On Sunday 11 June 2023 at 5.30 pm Buderim Village Park will be the location of the Festival’s signature event, ‘Singing up Country’, a free public concert.
Camerata Ensemble is one of Australia’s most respected Chamber Orchestras and has been critically acclaimed as comparable in performance standard to the Australian Chamber Orchestra. It is the Ensemble in Residence at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in Brisbane - QPAC.
‘Camerata has had a warm relationship with the Sunshine Coast Chamber Music Festival since our first Festival in 2021, but this is the first time they have been available to perform. We are so proud to have them open our 2023 Festival,’ said Festival Board Chairman, Ralph Devlin. ‘The Buderim War Memorial Hall is a beautiful venue for Chamber Music. The Buderim Hall has hosted Festival events in 2021 and 2022 and we are delighted to return with Camerata as the first offering in our 2023 Festival season,’ Mr Devlin said.
Camerata comes to Buderim in the closing stages of its 2023 Queensland Tour. The Chamber Orchestra will present an innovative and adventurous program of classical music, featuring world class players. They have never performed on the Sunshine Coast. ‘The vibrant and exquisite program has been curated by Camerata’s highly respected Artistic Director, Brendan Joyce. The program promises to intrigue and entertain our audience,’ Mr Devlin said.
Entirely devised, directed and designed by First Nations Artists and Creatives, ‘Singing up Country’ has attracted National attention for its excellence. ‘The Australia Council for the Arts, the peak Arts body in Australia, has awarded a Grant for our 2023 Festival production of “Singing up Country”. Such a Grant has never been won by a Sunshine Coast Arts organisation, so we are very proud to be the first,’ Mr Devlin said. ‘ We have artists coming from many parts of Australia to perform, some of the best-known First Nations Artists in Australia. This will be a spectacular Finale to our 2023 Festival. And it’s free.’
Kabi Kabi Elder, Auntie Helena Gulash, returns as the Artistic Director of “Singing up Country”. Deline Briscoe returns as Musical Director.
The many First Nations performing artists will again collaborate with local ensemble, ‘Topology’ for this performance. Projection Designer James Muller will once again weave his design magic for the stage.
